My Dogs are My Best Friends

I love my dogs. They mean the world to me. When I am asked what I like to do besides fencing, well, I say, “I like to hang out with my dogs.” I have two Australian Shepherds. Kikyo was the first dog I got after the London Olympics. She made me fall in love with the breed. She is my heart dog and when I first got her I hardly left her side. We’ve had so many adventures together. To see her happy is one of my favorite hobbies. We have adventured many lakes, beaches, rivers and mountains together. We have traveled to Lake Tahoe, where we enjoyed the crystal-clear lake and the gorgeous mountains. We have also traveled to Colorado together many times where we hiked the beautiful mountains and frolicked in snow. After the Rio Olympics, I felt it was time to get Kikyo an Aussie friend. I immediately fell in love with Beorn.  Beorn is only a year old but has also joined in on all the adventures. I took the pups to Colorado in August and Beorn was in heaven. He loves hiking in the mountains more than any dog I’ve ever seen. To see him so happy and free was so rewarding.

Although I love my dogs more than anything, it makes fencing and traveling so much harder. Finding people to watch the dogs can be really difficult, especially because we don’t live with our parents anymore. Every trip is a struggle to find dog sitters and leaving the puppies behind. I wish I could just bring them everywhere with me!  As I travel, it isn’t unusual for me to Face-Time my puppies (a little human help is needed).  Kikyo knows it is me on the phone and video! She has a cute way of tilting her head and you can just see that she is trying to figure out what the heck is going on and where I am!

As I travel home from each and every trip, the first ones to greet me as I walk in the door are my puppies!  Although, I usually spend the rest of the day sleeping off the jet lag, they sleep right next to me as we dream about the next adventure we will have!
